Parking fines (Penalty Charge Notices)

East Renfrewshire Council's parking attendants are responsible for issuing parking fines (Penalty Charge Notices).

If you park in breach of the parking restrictions either on-street, or in an off-street car park, you are likely to get a parking fine called a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). Before leaving your vehicle, please take care to read the Traffic Regulation signs in the area if you are in doubt. The signs inform you as to which restrictions apply.

East Renfrewshire Council's Parking Attendants' job is to make the restrictions work for all residents and visitors. They collect a range of evidence, including video and photographs to give assurance against errors when issuing tickets.

Police Scotland continues to enforce moving offences, obstructions and endorsable offences as these violations are potentially dangerous or harmful. These include speeding or parking on white zig-zags at crossings.

If you have any further questions please read the Q&A document:

Paying a penalty charge notice

The value of a parking penalty charge notice is £60:00; however a discounted amount of £30.00 will be accepted as full payment if received within 14 days of issue of the fine

Any payments received after the 14 day period has expired requires the full amount of £60 to be paid.

You can pay by debit card or credit card, cheque or cash.

Please have the following information available when you want to pay:

  • Penalty Charge Notice number (ER87654321 for example)
  • Vehicle registration mark
  • Date of notice
  • Location of offence

Credit or debit card payments

Please call 0141 577 4699, 08:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday if you would like to pay by credit/debit card. Have the above penalty charge notice information and your credit/debit card details available before you call.

We accept most debit and credit cards except American Express, Diners Club and Electron.

Cheque payments

Please make cheques payable to East Renfrewshire Council. Write the above penalty charge notice information on the back of the cheque and send it to:

Roads & Transportation Services
2 Spiersbridge Way
Thornliebank
G46 8NG

Cash payments

Please note that cash is only accepted at Customer First in our Giffnock and Barrhead offices. Take your penalty charge notice details with you to enable payment.

Challenge / Appeal

The penalty charge notice issued to you details the alleged contravention, together with the place, time and date that it occurred. If you feel that it was incorrectly issued, you may make a written challenge to:

Parking Fine Challenge
East Renfrewshire Council
Parking Enforcement
PO BOX 27100
GLASGOW
G4 7DG

If your challenge is rejected, you will be sent a reply explaining the reasons why, and advising what you can do next.

If your challenge is accepted the parking fine (PCN) will be withdrawn and you will receive written notification. Do not send any payment with your challenge as the council's receipt of the correct payment will deem the case to be closed and there is no recourse to further action.
