Advocacy and interpreting

We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity with a view to enabling disadvantaged and minority groups to have access to services and jobs.

We work in partnership with communities to improve the quality of our services. We recognise that there is a section of the resident population for whom English is not a suitable language of communication. In addition there are people who need access to English by sign language or in other formats.

The Council as a service provider will strive, where and whenever possible, to offer communication support. It is the Council’s intention to print a number of policy documents, for example our Race Equality Scheme, in languages other than English that are most commonly used by ethnic minorities in our community; for example Urdu, Punjabi and Chinese.

We have two service centres where you can receive face-to-face service, information and assistance from our Customer Service Team.
