The Glasgow Youth Choir continues to nurture the talents of the young people of the west of Scotland as it did when the late Dr Agnes Hoey M.B.E. founded the choir 50 years ago. It is now conducted by Audrey McKirdy who grew up singing in the choir. Being in the choir inspired her to make music her career, and in addition to singing professionally, she spends her time teaching singing in schools, a college & at home.

The choir members, who come from in and around Glasgow, are aged from 5 years old to girls in their twenties and are split into Junior and Senior sections. As well as the major concerts the choir holds twice a year, they performed at many concerts and different events, singing in various styles including Classical, Shows, Scots, Folk, Gospel, Jazz & Pop.

Over the choirs 50 year history, we have had the chance to appear on television & radio on many occasions. The choir have also toured extensively abroad, even as far afield as Canada & the U.S.A. In recent years, they have also performed in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, and in St John's College Chapel, Cambridge. The senior section have just returned from a very successful tour to Paris, which included singing at Disneyland Paris.

A small group from both choirs performed the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the World Council of Credit Unions attended by delegates from 62 countries in July.

The Junior choir were jointly awarded the Herald Challenge Trophy by the Glasgow Music Festival 2011 adjudicator Douglas Coombes.

Rehearsals resume for new members on Thursday 1st September for the Senior Section from 7pm-9pm, and Saturday 3rd September for the Junior Section from 10am-12pm. These are held in Glasgow Caledonian University, George Moore Building Room M001. Entry into the choir is by relaxed audition with the conductor Audrey McKirdy, who will be taking auditions from 6.45pm on Thursdays and 9.30AM on Saturdays. We will be taking in new members for the next few weeks. Junior Members are girls and boys aged P1-S2, with the Senior Section consisting of girls from S3 into their twenties, but we are hoping to expand this to boys who's voices have broken and would be delighted if they would like to join us.
