The Council has been planning additional early years places to meet demand from new residential development through for example recently increasing early learning and childcare provision in Crookfur nursery class and with the new build Cart Mill Family Centre which will offer more places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds from 2017. Future increased provision is under construction at the Faith Schools' Joint Campus and will open in August 2017 (increasing Calderwood Lodge nursery from 60 to 100 places), and construction has commenced on a new build replacement and extended Arthurlie Family Centre at Auchenback Community Hub to open late 2017. There are proposals to establish a new early learning and childcare facility at remodelled accommodation at St Cadoc's Primary School and at the new non-denominational primary school planned at Maidenhill both for August 2019. In addition to this, the Council commissions early learning and childcare places from partner providers; this mainly affects the areas of Busby/Clarkston and Newton Mearns. The future direction of travel is an increase in entitlement for early learning and childcare to 1140 hours entitlement by 2020 which officers are currently planning for to ensure sufficient places are available using a mix of delivery modes.

Table 6 below summarises the current number of places (registered capacity based on 600 hours provision), and 3 and 4 year old children attending Council early learning and childcare facilities by community area. In addition to this, the Council commissions 338 places for early learning and childcare from partner providers. As noted earlier, this mainly affects Busby/Clarkston and Newton Mearns areas.

Please note that capacity is based on 600hrs provision. Also where early learning and childcare facilities have extended hours provision this is not a true reflection of occupancy as it is based on 1 child attending 5 sessions but they can attend more in extended hours (up to 10).
