Our Customer Service opening hours are 8.45am - 4.45pm, Monday to Friday. The Payment Centre hours are 9am - 4.15pm, with only credit/debit card payments (not cash) between 1pm and 2pm.

Bins, recycling and rubbish

Why are we changing waste collection (policy links)?

The collection service is changing in response to feedback from residents that they would prefer wheeled bins. It also meets new national guidance and should reduce on-going running costs for the service in future years.

Three-weekly collections of rubbish are already operating successfully in a number of other areas where adequate recycling services are in place. Studies show that there is no increased risk to public health when household waste is stored for three weeks.* The new service will offer residents an improved recycling service which increases the capacity and frequency of collections for plastics and introduces cardboard recycling at the kerbside too, along with food and drinks cartons.

*Zero Waste Scotland conducted a study which showed there was no increased risk to public health increasing the frequency of collection from 14 to 21 days: Zero Waste Scotland: Reducing frequency of waste collections.

Both East Renfrewshire recycling centres will remain open: Recycling centres and points.

As required by SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) we provide final destinations for all waste streams. All recycling materials are sent to recycling processors for sorting and to be put back into the recycling stream to be used again: What happens to your recycling?
