More than 25 people from a range of agencies are working together to mitigate the effect of welfare reforms and improve the finances of residents in East Renfrewshire.

The FAIRER (Forum for Advice, Information & Resources East Renfrewshire) collaboration enables community partners to share knowledge, information and best practice to make a difference to local people.

The group - including representatives from the Citizens Advice Bureau, Voluntary Action, Scottish Welfare Fund and Benefits, the council's revenues team, the money advice and rights team, prevention and housing tenancy services - meets every two months.

Following the most recent meeting of the group, Councillor Ian McAlpine, Convener of Corporate and Community Services who chairs the FAIRER meetings, said:

The group is an information sharing forum, where voluntary and third sector groups can meet with council services and share ideas to create more effective ways of working to benefit the people of East Renfrewshire. When the group comes together, it is fantastic to hear about the massive impact and developments made by the services in the previous months and discuss new ways of working. At the most recent meeting we were also delighted to be updated by Russell MacMillan, from East Ren Good Causes, about the support this fantastic charity can offer some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. We will continue to work closely together to ensure we are doing all we can to help make a difference to local people."
