New artist impressions reveal City Deal connectivity projects

New artist impressions reveal Glasgow City Deal projects to improve road connections between Barrhead and Newton Mearns including enhancements to Balgraystone Rd and Aurs Rd.

City Deal roads artists impression

East Renfrewshire's City Deal team will be at The Avenue Shopping Centre, Newton Mearns on Tuesday 27 June, 12-3pm and Barrhead Foundry on Thursday 29 June, 4-7pm, to answer questions and show the detailed plans.

  • Balgraystone Road (opposite St Luke's High School) will be reconstructed to provide improved access to the Country Park and facilitate the development of 200 new homes. This will also create a route to the new railway station and bus interchange. Work is expected to commence in early 2018 and be completed by Spring 2018.
  • Aurs Road will be improved over its 1.3km length with two sections of realignment, the creation of a new roundabout and replacement of a weak bridge. This will create a safer, more direct route between Barrhead and Newton Mearns for all road users. It will also provide safe access to and across the Country Park. Work will commence in Spring 2018 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2019.
  • A new railway station is planned at Barrhead South on the Glasgow to Neilston line. It will also include a car park and bus interchange providing improved public transport connectivity. Construction of the station is expected to commence in 2019.
  • We are also exploring options to further improve connectivity between Barrhead, Newton Mearns and the M77. This may include new roads as well as improvements to existing routes.
