Grants and awards

You can apply for various loans or grants to improve your business. These are described below.

West of Scotland Loan Fund

Business loans are available to new and existing businesses to provide gap funding, and to encourage and support the creation, development and growth of small businesses so that they will be able to contribute to and strengthen the local economy in terms of jobs, growth and wealth.

Loans can be used to buy new or used plant and equipment and business property, and to provide working capital. A loan of up to 50% of the cost, up to a maximum of £50,000 (under certain circumstances), is available. The loan scheme will not normally supply all the funding for a project, but will operate in conjunction with other lending agencies.

Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) is a national grant scheme administered by the Scottish Executive. It aims to encourage investment and job creation which make real gains in net employment in Scotland. Eligible costs for this type of support include expenditure on land and buildings, plant and machinery, software and occasionally the acquisition of intellectual property from third parties.

The Scottish Executive has introduced a new type of Regional Selective Assistance support scheme for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in parts of our local area. Businesses located within the wards of Eaglesham, Netherlee, Busby, Mearns, Barrhead East, Auchenback, North Neilston, West Arthurlie and Barrhead Central are eligible to apply for this new scheme.

Grant levels are:

  • 7.5% of eligible expenditure for medium-sized businesses with a turnover of less than £34 million, and which employ between 50 and 250 people

There is no RSA support in our council area for large companies employing more than 250 people.
