Background
The website has undergone some significant changes, in this section we hope to answer why we have made these changes.
Why have you re-designed the website?
We carried out extensive user testing on the website to measure how effective it really was. The people who tested the website gave us an invaluable insight into what our customers really thought about the website.
During the user testing we filmed the participants completing various tasks and from this we were then able to measure the success rate of the tasks completed. Key areas which needed improvement were the navigation, A-Z and the overall look and feel of the website – many of you thought the website was too cluttered.

We hope you like the new look, but we won’t stop there. We are already planning further user testing sessions to refine the website.
How did you choose the navigation headings?
The headings are based on the Scottish Navigation List (SNL). The SNL is part of an initiative for all Scottish council websites to adopt the same common navigation headings. This will make it easier for you to find the information you are looking for in any Scottish local authority website.
What are the Frequently Asked Questions for?
People tend to visit websites to solve problems or to get answers to their questions. We want to present you with as much information as possible to satisfy your enquiry as easily and quickly as possible at the first point of contact. With this in mind, we have created a keyword search facility which enables you to search over 1000 frequently asked questions.

How can I find documents on the website?
We have created a publications directory to house all the documents contained on the website in one area. Before you view a document you can read a detailed description to ensure that you have located the correct publication. The documents are filed in categories which mirror the navigation as outlined below; we feel that this will make the retrieval of documents significantly easier than before.

Can I tailor the website for my own needs?
Yes, if you sign up. You can choose areas of interest and save your preferences. We have developed the site to store these preferences and return pages based on your choices - It saves you looking for the information!
In addition, you can also subscribe to mailing lists, add events and details of your community group or organisation. If those details need updated in the future, don’t panic, you can use your login details and make the change yourself.
We will receive an email notification of your changes and activate them.
Will my details be held securely?
Yes, your details are held securely on our server. We won’t ask for bank details or any other important personal information. Simply enter a name and a valid email address and that’s it. We won’t make your details available to any third party.
Can I change the size of the text if I find it too small?
Yes, you can choose the size of the text displayed on the website. Look along the top of the page for the Text Size icons and change it to suit.
