Entertainments licence

You need a Public Entertainment Licence if you want to use any premises as a place of public entertainment.  This is defined as any place where, on payment of money or money’s worth, members of the public are admitted or may use any facilities for the purposes of entertainment or recreation.

In East Renfrewshire, you need a licence for the following activities:

  • public concerts, other than theatrical productions

  • dance halls or discotheques

  • ice rinks with audience accommodation

  • open air pop concerts

  • fairgrounds

  • circuses

  • large fetes with marquees for the public

  • large fireworks or bonfire displays

  • leisure centres with audience accommodation

  • activities where a public audience may be present e.g. a boxing, wrestling or judo presentation

  • snooker, billiard or pool halls

  • radio or television studios with audience accommodation

  • premises offering sunbed tanning treatments and tanning centres

An Indoor Sports Entertainment Licence is required if you want to use a premises as a place of public sports entertainment.
