East Renfrewshire Library and Information Services are inviting submissions for their second creative writing award.  Launched in February 2009, the Eileen Gilmour Award for Creative Writing aims to encourage and showcase the work of new and emerging writers. To enter the 2010 competition, writers are asked to submit a new piece of writing on the theme of Routes to Roots.

Eileen Gilmour worked as a librarian for more than 30 years in a number of libraries including Glenburn, Barrhead, Paisley, and Giffnock and latterly at East Renfrewshire Library headquarters.

Throughout her life Eileen was passionate about books and through libraries she enjoyed the opportunity to share her love of reading and writing with everyone she came in contact with.

In March 2008, Eileen died after a long illness. In memory of her contribution to the cultural life of East Renfrewshire and her lifelong commitment to libraries, her family has presented East Renfrewshire Council with this creative writing award.
