Sports development

The Sports Development section of East Renfrewshire Council was established in 2001.

The aim of the section is to provide a wide range of sporting opportunities and support to the local community through the following:

Sports Development Pathways – Create, Develop and Sustain opportunities to all within sports/activities through sports development centres and holiday programmes.

The aim of the Sports Development Centres are to provide children and adults with the opportunity to develop skills, interact with others and have fun in a safe environment.

The Sports on offer are:

  • Badminton

  • Basketball

  • Cheerleading

  • Childs Play

  • Football

  • Golf

  • Hockey

  • Jogging (Adult)

  • Kwik Cricket

  • Mini Tennis

  • Netball

  • Swimming Lessons

  • Walking in Rouken Glen

Club Development

Assist Clubs with own development providing advice and support on all levels. Establish new sports clubs in regeneration areas and clubs that link into Sports Development Pathways and Active Schools target sports. Implementation of Sport Specific Forums that allow community issues relating to specific sports to be discussed and resolved.

Coach Education

Development and Maintenance of Coach Education Programme to support Clubs, Coaches, Teachers and Volunteers. Joint Partnership work with Active Schools.

Coach and Volunteer Recruitment and Retention

Provide opportunities and support to be employed / volunteer within East Renfrewshire Council delivering sport and physical activity in Schools, Clubs and Sports Development Centres. Provide assistance to personal development and coaching experience.

Events

Planning, Organisation, Implementation and Evaluation of festivals and events such as Greaves Sports Running Festival which attracts 1500 – 1700 participants every year.

Price: £7.20 per block or £1.20 Per Session

8 Weeks for price of 6 when block booking!

Adult jogging criteria - block booking

When booking onto a course please note the criteria regarding the level you wish to join.

Beginners (walk/jog):  For complete beginners or those who are returning to jogging.
Intermediate: Must be able to jog for at least 30 minutes without stopping.
Advanced: Must be able to jog for at least 45 minutes without.
