Blackeyed Theatre in association with South Hill Park Arts Centre presents
Alfie
by Bill Naughton
7.30pm
Approx running time 2 hours
Made famous by movies starring Michael Caine and more recently Jude Law, Alfie is the brilliant, original stage play about a young man with an overwhelming desire for the ladies. You might say that ‘birds’ are irresistible to him, sort of second nature. There's Ruby - ‘A lust box in beautiful condition’; Clare - ‘You're all lathered in sweat, Alfie’; and Siddie, and Clara, and Annie - but who's counting? Certainly not Alfie. Three in one evening if necessary. And necessary is the right word!
Alfie combines great comedy and genuine pathos, as well as live 60s music, as it tells the story of a cockney ‘Don Juan’ who swaggers and philosophises his way from conquest to conquest, carefully rejecting anyone or anything that might touch him too deeply.

Company Chordelia presents
Les Amoureux
7.30pm
Approx running time 1 hour
In her only garment, a faded, tattered once-wedding dress with sunglasses to shield her from light, the Countess, neither alive nor dead, is a reluctant huntress, condemned forever to slake a thirst that will not let her rest.
She turns over a tarot card. For the first time ever, she has drawn Les Amoureux. The Lovers.
Her keeper, and the shadows of her domain, bear witness to the arrival of the handsome young soldier...
Company Chordelia’s new production, Les Amoureux, is based around Angela Carter's story The Lady of The House of Love which has inspired the idea of creating a visceral, theatrical equivalent to Carter’s incredible imagery. This is a story of love, life and death, a twisted Sleeping Beauty with the faded opulent feel of a gothic fantasy with a strong Eastern European quality.
Combining dance and physical theatre with opera, voice and design, Les Amoureux is a sensual tale of purity and damage. Les Amoureux creates a world where time stops and never ends, expressed through physical grace, explosive, characterful and witty movement, whispers, discord and beautiful, soaring singing.

Sometimes we have to believe in the impossible
What if you lived in the middle of nowhere?
What if your dad spent all day searching for something he might never find?
What if your mum dreamed of living on the other side of the world?
And what if your sister was a fruit-loop who spent all day playing with two invisible friends?
12 year-old Ashmol lives in the Australian outback with his mum, dad and his little sister Kellyanne and her two invisible friends Pobby and Dingan.
One day, Pobby and Dingan disappear. At first Ashmol is happy that the imaginary friends are out of his life, but Kellyanne becomes sick. The longer Pobby and Dingan are lost, the sicker Kellyanne becomes. Finally Ashmol decides that there is only one thing to do: he must find Pobby and Dingan.
Pobby and Dingan is a heartbreaking and beautiful contemporary tale about the possibility of dreams, the preciousness of hope and how, sometimes, we have to believe in the impossible.

Thus the Edinburgh Quartet was one of the first university-based quartets in the UK. Although still busily involved in the musical life of Edinburgh University, the Edinburgh Quartet is now resident at Napier University, Edinburgh, and fulfils a busy series of commitments with the university's Ian Tomlin School of Music.

A Mull Theatre Production
Laurel and Hardy
by Tom McGrath
7.30pm
Approx running time 2 hours
Two instantly recognisable characters: Stan's crying face and his explosive hair...Ollie's long-suffering camera look and his tie-twiddle ...and, of course, the iconic bowler hats. Emerging from vaudeville, music hall and early silent comedies, Laurel and Hardy formed an enduring partnership, crafting their films with love and attention - and clearly having fun. Audiences shared that fun and that love, and continue to do so even now, 75 years after their heyday.
Laurel & Hardy lifts the bowler hats of two charming and witty men to take a look at their lives and loves and offers a fascinating insight into their off-screen relationship and personal heartaches. With some of their finest comedy routines, musical numbers, dance and slapstick, the charm and wit of Stan and Ollie are reborn in this warm and affectionate look at the most successful and prolific comedy team in screen history.
Tom McGrath, one of Scotland's foremost playwrights, died in 2009. This production is a tribute to Tom and a celebration of life, love and friendship.
Mull Theatre will be running a residency in conjunction with this production. Contact Fiona Ferguson on 0141 577 3710.
