East Renfrewshire Council has produced its first Active Ageing Directory. At any age, being active means different things to different people. But whether you choose walking, volunteering or local campaigning, experts and local people agree that being active in the community makes a difference.
By pulling together services, activities and groups in one guide, we hope that the Directory will contribute to health and quality of life for all older people in East Renfrewshire. With choice in mind, there are a wide range of sections and contacts, from Health and Care to Housing and Energy Efficiency. If your interest is physical activity, the Directory can help and there’s plenty for those who want to stay active through social or interest- based activities such as reading groups, computing courses or local lunch clubs. We’ve also included information about volunteering, local forums, and support and action groups.
When we asked local groups what information should be in the Directory, safety was high on the list. So the Directory also covers resources for safety at home and in the community such as Neighbourhood Watch Schemes, Crime Prevention Panels and dealing with bogus callers.
As people remain active for longer, volunteering has become a popular way to keep involved, contribute to the local community and meet new friends. There are many ways to volunteer in East Renfrewshire, from befriending to becoming an adviser with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
We hope the Directory will be a resource for groups and individuals alike and if you have any queries please contact:
