Facebook explained

What is Facebook?

Facebook is a Social Networking Service (SNS) which is available on the internet and provides a way of interacting with other people and services.

On SNS sites, you can talk to your friends, make new friends, discuss your hobbies, find out about local events, share photographs, share news stories or just keep up to date with your social life.

With Facebook applications and groups, you can do loads more things like discuss your favourite books, swap recipes, talk about music or film or even play live games of cards, chess or scrabble with other people from all over the world.

East Renfrewshire Council on Facebook

In February 2008, East Renfrewshire became the first council in the UK to allow users of Facebook to have access to council information through the social networking site.

We have launched pages for all ten of our libraries, four sports centres and Eastwood Park Theatre. These pages contain information on opening times and facilities but also include discussion boards where you can leave your comments, review a show, interact with staff, discuss your favourite books or seek advice on how to use a PC with other users.

If you become a fan of one of our pages, you can receive a range of benefits such as details of upcoming events, special offers, photos and newsletters. You can leave at any time if you do not wish any more information.

Where can I visit the pages?

Privacy

When you set up a Facebook account, you should think about how much of your personal data you wish to share with the public, and set your account privacy accordingly. Although you may wish to share you new mobile phone number with friends, you do not want to share these details with everyone.

Once privacy levels have been set, you will know exactly who can see what information on your site. You can also set friends to limited profile status so that they can only see certain parts of your profile. For more information on Privacy on Facebook view their web page at:
