Portal to the Past

There are several artists, both past and present, who have connections with East Renfrewshire. The following is just a small sample of these artists.

William Gemmell was a joiner and sculptor who lived and worked in Eaglesham in the 19th century. John Maguire was an Eaglesham artist who worked in oils and watercolours at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The artist Marianne Grant, who lived for many years in Newton Mearns, was a survivor of the Holocaust. She survived the occupation of Czechoslovakia, forced labour and imprisonment in the concentration camps.
