East Renfrewshire has a rich collection of over 2,000 photographs and postcards depicting scenes and people related to the area. Many of these can be found in our new Heritage Database. There are two ways to look at the photographs and postcards in our database: you can browse from our Heritage Photo Collection page, which has the photos grouped by place; or you can search our database for images using our Heritage Advanced Search. More information on these two methods can be found below.
Heritage Photo Collection
You can browse the photographs and postcards in our database by clicking on the Heritage Photo Collection link or by choosing Heritage Photo Collection from the Heritage Database Records option on the menu at the left of the screen. Images are grouped by place, i.e. Barrhead, Busby, Clarkston, Eaglesham, Giffnock, Mearns, Neilston and Uplawmoor, and Thornliebank. You can also look at the works of local Eaglesham artist, John E. Maguire, who painted local scenes at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
Heritage Advanced Search
You can search for photographs and postcards in our database on more specific subjects by clicking on the Heritage Advanced Search link or by choosing Heritage Advanced Search from the Heritage Database Records option on the menu at the left of the screen. By selecting 'Image' from the 'Type' drop-down menu on the Heritage Advanced Search page and choosing other search criteria of your choice, you can tailor your search to what interests you. For more information on how to search the database see the Heritage - Help Guide.
