Change of tenancy

It is very important that applicants advise the Council if they change address, or other circumstances after they have have submitted their application form.

If you want to add someone to your tenancy and make them a joint tenant e.g. through marriage, a change of tenancy application form must be completed.

  • A: If you are the council tenant and you die, the tenancy automatically passes on to your husband or wife, partner or your joint tenant. This is called succession. If you have no spouse, partner or joint tenant, a member of your family who is over 16 can inherit the tenancy, provided the house was his or her only or principal home at the time of your death. The tenancy can only be passed on twice.
