Garden waste

* Please note last collections for 2008 will take place fortnight beginning 14th November.  Collections will resume fortnight beginning 9th March 2009.*

A brown bin can be provided to you for collection of your garden waste. The following materials can be accepted and taken away to be composted.

Acceptable

  • Flowers & plants

  • Hedge Clippings

  • Lawn mowings & seeds

  • Sawdust & wood shavings

  • Small branches & bark

Not acceptable

  • Plastic bags

  • Soil

  • Kitchen waste

If the bin is too heavy it can result in it not being collected. Please make sure that you can move it easily otherwise the vehicle may be unable to lift the bin.

When

The brown bin should be placed on the kerbside for 7.00am on your designated day of collection. In most cases this should be the same day as your grey refuse bin every two weeks.

After the waste is collected in the vehicle it is taken straight to the centralised composting plant where it begins the process of being composted. This process takes about 5-6 months and when the compost is ready it is used for land remediation and reclamation. The compost that is produced can be bought back by residents if they go direct to the reprocessor. However, the compost is not bagged and you will be required to take your own shovel to fill bags at £1 per bag.
