Household waste - disposal sites

There are two Household Recycling Centres in East Renfrewshire:

Carlibar Road, Barrhead

Greenhags, Ayr Road, Newton Mearns.

These sites are designed to maximise the potential for recycling your waste.  A range of materials can be recycled at these centres including waste electrical and electronic waste (anything with a plug or battery), car and household batteries and engine oil.  You can also recycle garden waste, paper, cardboard, glass, cans, food and drinks cartons and plastics.

Both sites are only licensed for household waste and as such cannot accept any trade or commercial waste.  You can view details here of what to do with commercial waste

Opening Hours

Barrhead Recycling Centre & Civic Amenity Site

Winter 8am-5.30pm

Summer 10am- 8pm

Greenhags Recycling Centre & Civic Amenity Site

Winter 8.30am-6pm

Summer 8.30am- 8pm

Taking a van or trailer

All residents wanting to bring a van or trailer into either centre should book their vehicle in advance by calling 0141 577 3038

Please note that this must be done in advance of your visit.  Office hours for booking are 8.45am –4.45pm (Monday – Thursday) and 8.45- 3.55pm (Friday).
