Integrated Learning Disability Team

East Renfrewshire has an adult learning disability team.  The Integrated Learning Disability Team (ILDT) provides services to people who have a learning disability and are over 16 years old, living within the East Renfrewshire area.

The Keys to Life, Improving Quality of Life for People with Learning Disabilities (2013), Scottish Government defines a Learning Disability as;

"People with learning disabilities have a significant, lifelong, condition that started before adulthood, which affected their development and which means they need help to: understand information, learn skills and cope independently."

We aim to provide person centred opportunities based on a full holistic assessment, promoting social inclusion, independence and self-care to achieve positive outcomes such as feeling safe and healthy.

We work to ensure that, as far as possible, people with a learning disability have the same opportunities, rights and responsibilities as everyone else and are able to lead as full a life as possible.

The team is able to:

  1. Give information, support and advice to people who have a learning disability, their families, carers and professionals
  2. Undertake an assessment of your needs and look at how they can best be met
  3. Support your health care needs, especially if you have difficulty accessing health care services
  4. Help protect people who may be at risk
  5. Promote social inclusion, independence and self-care
  6. Help you meet the outcomes that are important to you
  7. Social work and health services are joined up together in the team to support people with a learning disability
  8. They share information with each other to help get the best support for people

The team is made up of lots of professionals to support you, we have:

  • Social Workers
  • Learning Disability Nurses
  • Psychiatrist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Speech and Language Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Psychologist

This means that the team are able to assess all your needs in a person centred way and able to fully support your needs to make sure your outcomes are met.
