East Renfrewshire Library and Information Service is now offering customers the opportunity to connect to the internet using our Wi-Fi hotspots at Clarkston, Giffnock and Mearns libraries.
Have your library card and 4-digit PIN handy. Don't know your PIN? Then contact your local library.
Follow our 4 quick steps to getting online:
1. Start up your device and make sure that wireless is enabled
2. Select East Renfrewshire Libraries from the list of available connections
3. Open your web browser and enter your barcode number and PIN.
4. Tick the box to accept our Terms and Conditions and then Login
A good read
Your local library is home to a huge selection of novels, factual books and large print. Why not listen to one of our talking books - we now stock talking books in CD, MP3 and MP3 disc formats. Our new download service is also great for those who like to read on the go!
That's entertainment
Our collection of films is now bigger than ever! We receive new movies on the day they're released, so you don't have to wait too long to watch blockbusters from the comfort of your own home. With a wide range of CDs to borrow, spanning genres from pop and country to folk and classical, Clarkston library is the perfect location to expand your musical horizons.
Children and young people
With storytimes, Bookbug sessions for tots, craft events, access to PCs, DVDs and of course a huge range of books, the younger members of the family will be kept amused for hours. We also offer a variety of services to assist with homework help.
Community information
If you'd like to learn more about what's happening in your area, or you need some assistance promoting your community group or event, libraries are a great place to start. We can help you:
- by displaying posters and leaflets on notice boards and in community information folders
- by displaying adverts on the library plasma screens
- by giving you access to the community rooms in Barrhead, Clarkston and Mearns libraries

Learn at your local library
Whether you want to learn a new language or study for your driving test, your local library is crammed full of materials to help you achieve your goal. If you would like to improve your career choices or simply want to find out what the internet has to offer, your local library has an IT class to suit you.
Information and reference
Whether you're struggling with a crossword or need some local information, go to the libraries' website where you'll gain access to a wealth of reference materials. Fact-find with the Encyclopaedia Britannica, search every national UK newspaper with Newsstand or practice for your UK Citizen test or driving test.
History and heritage
If you're interested in finding out more about the history of your family or local area, libraries have lots of resources to help. Get inspired by going online to East Renfrewshire's heritage collection, Portal to the Past , where you'll find an extensive collection of photographs, maps, newspapers and more. Library members can use Ancestry for free from any PC in East Renfrewshire libraries or on a mobile device in those libraries that are wireless enabled. Please note, there is no access to our subscription outwith our libraries.Ancestry is a family history website which contains hundreds of thousands of records and indexes from all around the world, including census data, military records, wills, passenger lists, personal stories and much more. There are resources from the UK, Ireland, Canada, the USA, Australia and beyond, as well as useful reference materials such as trade directories and gazetteers.
