Friends of Cowan Park committee formed
Over 20 people attended a public meeting of Friends of Cowan Park recently at which the group was constituted and the following officer bearers voted on to the new committee:
Edwina Philips - chair
Alan Kirkwood - vice-chair
Fiona Cameron - secretary
Christine Direen - treasurer.
There is also a committee of a further nine people.
Edwina Philips said: "I grew up spending my summers in the Cowan Park with my friends using the putting; the tennis and much more. But I can see a vision of the park being used for concerts or a wide variety of activities for children, young people and families becoming a centre for our community."
The Friends of Cowan Park's aim is to help with the management and improvement of Barrhead's main park. The group believes that Cowan Park has great potential, and would like to maximise this for the benefit of all local residents.
The group has already submitted a grant fund application for over £100,000 to the BIG Lottery. If successful, this will enable to group to create a contemplation garden surrounding the existing war memorial, and to develop an attractive and bio diverse wet-land drainage system with associated board-walks, making good use of the water-logged southern end of the park.
The Friends of Cowan Park now have a Facebook page. So to find out whats going on click on:
