Help for Parents
Most parents know that their local community libraries are a great place to bring their children. There are books and story CDs for all reading ages and abilities, factual books for homework, study and hobbies and free Internet access. There are often special craft and author events and, for the younger members of the family, story times and bounce and tickle sessions.
Bounce & Tickle sessions feature stories and rhymes. They’re fun for little ones, but they’re also a great way for parents and carers to bond with their babies and to meet new people!
For information on the range of services for younger people, and to check the times and dates of story times and Bounce and Tickle sessions, see the Libraries’ homepage.
Practical Parenting collection
Many community libraries have a Practical Parenting collection in the children’s area. This selection of books and materials covers a range of parenting subjects, from handling toddler tantrums and talking about teenage issues, to children’s nutrition and exercise. Search for “Practical Parenting” in the library catalogue .
Community libraries that don’t have their own section will hold a selection of parenting titles.
