Computer Qualifications

You can study for a computer qualification with East Renfrewshire Libraries. If you're interested in doing either of the courses below, contact the Library Learning Team on 0141 577 4992, email or ask at your local library.

There is a charge involved for both of these courses, but you can significantly reduce the cost by applying for an Individual Learning Account (ILA).


European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

The ECDL is perfect for those who want to gain a widely recognised computing qualification. It can increase your computer skills, whatever your current level, improve job prospects and increase your confidence.

Candidates for the EDCL will be allocated a personal tutor to guide them through the course and prepare them for testing. Tutors will also provide learning materials, which include an online course, books and mock tests. Tutor contact is flexible and organised around the needs of the learner.

The ECDL consists of 7 modules:

  1. Basic concepts of I.T
  2. Using the computer and managing files.
  3. Word-processing
  4. Spreadsheets.
  5. Databases
  6. Presentation
  7. Information and communication (Internet and email)


e-Citizen

If you're interested in getting more out of the internet and would like a qualification, then e-Citizen could be for you. It is a fun and friendly way to teach people practical tasks.

It is designed for people who already have some basic computer skills. The e-Citizen course shows learners how to use the Internet for practical tasks such as:

  • Booking a holiday
  • Shopping and banking
  • Contacting local or national government
  • Finding information on health, hobbies etc

There is a 45 minute online test at the end of this course. Once you've have passed you'll receive a nationally recognised certificate.
