Building standards
Please note that from 7th June 2010, the Building Standards service moves office to 2 Spiersbridge Way, Spiersbridge Business Park, Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire G46 8NG. The opening hours are 8.45am to 4.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am to 3.55pm Friday. Phone numbers remain the same (reception 0141 577 3001).
Building Standards is one of several integral Services within the Roads, Planning and Transportation Service of the Environment Department.
The service is responsible for the administration and enforcement of statutory functions governing building regulations and dangerous buildings, structures, including vacant properties. The main functions are the health, safety and amenity of people in the built environment, conservation of fuel and power, facilities to and within buildings for people with disabilities and to further sustainable development. This is achieved by promoting compliance with specific legislation relating to buildings.
Additionally Building Standards provides discretionary services in response to enquiries about building and conveyancing matters. All our services, statutory and discretionary, are underpinned with a strong customer focus.
Building Standards deals with:
Processing Building Warrant Applications
Processing Certificate of Completion submissions
Inspecting Construction Work relating to Building Warrants
Carrying Out Enforcement of Building Standards
Inspecting and Assessing Dangerous Buildings
Providing Consultation and inspection reports to the Licensing Board
Assessing and Inspecting regulated stands, staging and temporary venues
Providing regulatory guidance on Disablement Issues
Issuing “Letters of Comfort” and Building Standards Property Enquiry Information
Providing regulatory advice to East Renfrewshire Access Panel

Building Standards staff are always available during office hours (8.45am - 4.45pm Monday to Thursday, 8.45am – 3.55pm on Friday) to provide general information and advice on building standards. The advice given will be objective and as helpful as possible without prejudice to the formal consideration of an Application to the Council

If you wish to meet staff to discuss any aspect of the Service please contact 0141 577 3001 to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
Identification of Staff
All Council staff are issued with identification cards, which they are expected to display prominently. The cards give the name, position and department of the cardholder and they also include a photograph.
If Council staff are calling at your home or place of business, you are entitled to ask to see their identity card so you can satisfy yourself that they represent the Council. If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please contact us and we will try to resolve any problems quickly, and explain what we have done and why.
If we do not respond satisfactorily, you can take your complaint further by using the East Renfrewshire Council’s complaints procedure. You can get a leaflet titled ‘Complaining’.
