Attractions - history and culture
Whether you are tracing your family tree or researching your local area, East Renfrewshire Heritage Services can help. We endeavour to preserve our heritage through our extensive collection, which includes old photographs, maps, newspapers and records.
We also have a local history book collection and hold electoral registers and valuation rolls up to the present. We hold census records (1841-1901) and old parish registers on microfilm for areas now in East Renfrewshire.
Heritage Services staff can also offer guidance on using the Internet to research the past.
These resources can be accessed at our two heritage centres at Giffnock Community Library and at Barrhead Community Library. Some resources are kept off-site but can be viewed by arrangement. In addition, there is a small collection of local studies resources available at each of our community libraries.
Some of the additional services we provide include a beginner’s course in family history, a local/family history enquiry service and a reprographics service.
