Bus stops and shelters

We are responsible for providing and maintaining most bus stops and shelters.  We also have an ongoing programme of shelter renewal, new shelter provision and improvements to the footways at bus stops.

A private company looks after all shelters that have display advertising.  They are responsible for 28 shelters and maintain them at their own expense under a term contract.

This contract also generates income to help pay for public transport, walking and cycling facilities.

The Council offers advice concerning the positioning and maintenance of bus shelters.

There are a number of specialist advertising firms who provide shelters in return for the right to display advertising material on them but these firms are normally only willing to consider urban areas.
