Provost welcomes Canadian visitors to East Renfrewshire

Couple delighted to visit Barrhead

Provost welcomes canadian visitors

Provost Jim Fletcher recently welcomed some Canadian visitors to East Renfrewshire Council Headquarters when they visited the area from Barrhead in Alberta.

Jeff Hankinson and Barb Philips were keen to visit Barrhead to gain an insight into its history during a tour of the United Kingdom earlier this month. Barrhead in Alberta was named after Barrhead, as one of the area's early settlers, James McGuire, was born in the East Renfrewshire town.

Jeff and Barb exchanged gifts and spoke at length with Provost Fletcher, reflecting on the similarities between Barrhead in East Renfrewshire and in Alberta.

"It is always fascinating to hear about the similarities and differences between our two great towns, so it was a real pleasure to meet Barrhead citizens Jeff and Barb. The links between Barrhead in East Renfrewshire and Barrhead in Alberta, have always been strong and it is my sincere hope that this will always continue to be the case. I wish Jeff and Barb and the residents of Barrhead a prosperous future." Provost Jim Fletcher
