Licensing

Second hand goods licence

Find out how to apply for a second-hand dealer's licence.

If you want to sell second-hand goods, you'll need to get a second-hand dealer's licence from the local authority you wish to sell in.

You don't need to apply for a licence if you're a:

  • pawnbroker and wholesale dealer  purchasing exclusively from licensed second-hand dealers
  • charitable business for the purpose of the Income Tax Acts
  • business dealing in second-hand articles that are incidental to another business
  • business financing the acquisition of goods by means of hire-purchase agreements, conditional sale agreements or financing the use of goods by means of hiring agreements
