A local pub in East Renfrewshire has been honoured with a Gold Best Bar None award for its efforts to show the venue is a safe and socially responsible venue for custom.

The popular venue 'The Kelburn Bar' in Barrhead, achieved a Gold award in the Independent Pub Category. As a result, it has also been short-listed for the "Heart of the Community" award in the Best Bar None Scotland Awards 2016-17.

The Kelburn Bar impressed both our assessors and the judging panel. This pub won a bronze in 2014, Silver in 2015 and has now received a Gold after having 'upped its game' every year. We wish them all the best at the national awards in March.
Trading Standards Manager, Steve Fox

Local venues were assessed during October and November 2016 and were scored using national guidelines. Best Bar None Awards are based on core standards relating to five licensing objectives, which are:

  • Preventing crime and disorder
  • Securing public safety
  • Preventing public nuisance
  • Protecting and improving public health
  • Protecting children from harm.

The Best Bar None initiative between Police Scotland and East Renfrewshire Council was introduced in 2014 and is aimed at raising standards and rewarding licensed premises who undertake positive management practices in support of a safe night out for locals.
