Volunteers wanted for vital Children's Hearings System role

Could you volunteer and be part of Scotland's unique care and justice system for children and young people?


Applications for important voluntary Children's Panel members in East Renfrewshire are now being invited. 

The Children's Hearings System is Scotland's care and justice system for children and young people in need of care, protection and support. 

Children's Panel members are ordinary people who do something extraordinary and make a positive contribution to children and young people who are at risk in their community. 

Volunteers should have the ability to:

  • commit the time
  • listen to all sides of a story
  • make difficult decisions
  • process information
  • empathise with children and young people

Positions are voluntary, with reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed.  

Volunteers are asked to commit to the equivalent of between two and six hours per week. 

Applications should be able to demonstrate good assessment, observation, interviewing and communications skills, as well as being able to regularly give their time to the Children's Hearings System.
