Join the Family Firm

Could you offer work experience?

We are looking for local businesses and teams across the Council to offer work experience to our amazing care experienced young people

Prevention team - Family Firm

What's involved in joining Family Firm?

  • Giving a young person the opportunity to spend time in a particular working environment they are interested in can help them to gain confidence, build social skills and improve job prospects.
  • Ideally, this would involve committing to a short or long term placement with a young person. We are also looking for work shadowing or taster days to allow our young people to explore different areas.

How is it managed?

  • Emma Aeppli, dedicated Family Firm Coordinator works with departments, businesses and the young people to facilitate opportunities and provide support to all parties.
  • Pre-employability support is completed by the young person prior to starting the placement to assist them in being work ready. Once in post, a mentor is appointed within the Council department to work closely with the young person, with dedicated support offered throughout by the Family Firm Coordinator.
  • A range of opportunities are facilitated including taster days, work experience, training, pre-employment support, access to full time and part time employment including traineeships and modern apprenticeships as well as support with transition to Further and Higher education.
  • Emma works closely with East Renfrewshire Health & Social Care Partnership's Youth Intensive Support Services (YISS) team and the Economic Development department at the Council as well as partnership working with other local statutory and non-statutory organisations

Benefits of joining Family Firm

  • Opportunity to really make a difference to the life of a creative young person
  • Build a young person's confidence, grow their skills and help them get on the first rung of the career ladder
  • Motivate and develop existing staff by offering mentor roles
  • A young person can bring fresh energy, enthusiasm and ideas to a team and provide a different perspective
  • No financial cost to department
