Giffnock Business Improvement District renewal ballot 2018

The ballot in respect of the renewal of the Business Improvement District (BID) for Giffnock was conducted between August and September 2018.

The ballot of all eligible businesses within the BID was conducted by post with a deadline for voting of 5pm on 27 September 2018.

The result of the ballot was to renew the BID for Giffnock for a further 5 years.

This is the result of the ballot to renew the BID within Giffnock under the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 and the Business Improvement Districts (Scotland) Regulations 2007.

The ballot was held by post with polls closing at 5pm on 27 September 2018.

The electorate consisted of 67 businesses.

The total votes were 38.

The turnout was 56.72%.

The turnout by rateable value (A+B) was 60.43 %.

The votes cast were as follows:

In favour of the renewal of the BID proposals for the area within Giffnock as specified on the ballot paper.

Not in favour of the renewal of the BID proposals for the area within Giffnock as specified on the ballot paper.

There were 0 rejected papers.

The rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which these votes were cast are as follows:

Aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted for the BID proposals (A)

£1,185,700

Aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted against the BID proposals (B)

The aggregate of the rateable values of all lands and heritages in respect of which a person is entitled to vote in the ballot is £2,355,350.

On the basis of these papers:

  1. The number of votes cast in favour of the BID proposals exceeds the number of votes cast against those proposals.

  2. The aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted for the BID proposals exceeds the aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted against the BID proposals.

  3. At least 25% of the persons entitled to vote in the ballot have done so.

  4. The aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted for the BID proposals plus the aggregate of the rateable values of the lands and heritages in respect of which a person voting in the ballot has voted against the BID proposals. This is equal to at least 25% of the aggregate of the rateable values of all lands and heritages in respect of which a person is entitled to vote in the ballot.

As these 4 conditions have been met the BID renewal proposals for the area within Giffnock listed on the ballot paper have been approved.
