Deferring entry to primary school

You can defer entry if your child turns 5 in January or February after the August they should start school.

If this happens we'll provide a nursery place.

You can also defer entry if your child turns 5 between the start of the term in August and December in the year they should start school.

If this happens, we can't guarantee a nursery place. You may need to pay for the extra year of childcare.

You can only defer until the next academic year.

You still need to apply to your catchment school if you defer entry. We'll withdraw this when we confirm whether your child will defer.

If you defer entry you must reapply the following year. We'll treat your application equal to other applications at that time.

Changing your mind

If you change your mind about deferring we can't guarantee a place will be available for your child.
