School admissions information

If your catchment school is full

We have limited places and it's not always possible to offer parents their first choice catchment school.

If we get more catchment applications than we have places we'll grant places using our priority criteria.

When you apply for primary and S1 you have the choice to choose a preferred alternative school.

For any other stage where your catchment school is full we'll contact you with options.

If you choose a preferred alternative school

If we can't offer a catchment place we'll look at your preferred alternative school.

If this happens we'll let you know by 31 March.

We'll treat the alternative school as a placing request and use our priority criteria.

We'll let you know the outcome of this by 30 April.

No preferred alternative school

If we can't offer a catchment place we'll redirect your child to another school until a place is available.

If this happens we'll let you know by 31 March.

We offer places to redirected children in the order we receive applications.

If there are more applications than places available we use our priority criteria.

Non-denominational school

If you apply to a non-denominational school we'll redirect your child to another non-denominational school.

Roman Catholic school

If you apply to a Roman Catholic school:

  • If your child has a Roman Catholic baptism certificate we'll redirect them to another Roman Catholic school.

  • If your child doesn't have Roman Catholic baptism certificate we'll register them at the non-denominational catchment school. This is permanent. They won't be on the waiting list for the Roman Catholic catchment school.
