Cladding Update

Cladding checks - no cause for concern

ERC logo

Following the tragic event at Grenfell we took the decision to assess all authority owned buildings, including schools, residential properties and public buildings.

We have compared our buildings to the construction risk factors that have been identified at Grenfell and have not identified any cause for concern with any of our properties' cladding.

None of our buildings use the type of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding reported to have been used on Grenfell.

Six of our low rise schools (none of which are above 18 metres in height) have a different form of ACM cladding and all are installed in accordance with the relevant technical requirements and meet stringent national building and fire safety regulations.

The schools are all designed with fire safety early warning smoke and fire detection systems, automatic sprinkler systems fitted throughout as well as multiple fire exits. All our schools also have well-rehearsed fire evacuation procedures.

Fire risk assessments have also been carried out for each property in conjunction with the Council's Health and Safety Team in compliance with Fire Safety (Scotland Act 2005) and Fire Safety Scotland Regulations 2006.

The schools are:

  • Eastwood High School
  • Woodfarm High School
  • Barrhead High School
  • Mearns Castle High School
  • Faith schools joint campus (St Claire's and Calderwood Lodge)
  • Williamwood High School
