The size of the minority ethnic population in 2011 was 6 per cent of the total population of East Renfrewshire (based on the 2011 ethnicity classification).

Most of the people in East Renfrewshire report their ethnicity as "White" in 2011: 94 per cent. The majority of these belonged to the "White: Scottish" category (87 per cent of the total population) "White: Other British" was the second largest category (4.1 per cent).

The Asian population is the largest minority ethnic group (5 per cent of the total East Renfrewshire population). The African, Caribbean or black groups made up 0.1 per cent of the population. Mixed or multiple ethnic groups represented 0.4 per cent and other ethnic groups 0.3 per cent of the total population.

East Renfrewshire and Glasgow City Councils both have the highest proportion of minority ethnic pupils in secondary schools at 14.3 per cent of the total school population. The national average is 4.6 per cent.

East Renfrewshire has the second highest proportion of minority ethnic primary pupils in Scotland at 14 per cent. The national average is 6.2 per cent.
